Excursions through Passau's Surroundings

For the following tours you need a coach. On request, Passau Tourismus e.V. will assist you in the organisation of a coach for your group. Please note that the costs for the bus are not included and will be charged additionally. Starting and meeting points can be arranged according to your wishes.

Bavarian Danube Valley (half day tour)

Visit of the granite centre Bavarian wood with exhibition (film, museum, quarry). Experience the underground graphite mine "Kropfmühl" and enjoy the Ceramic museum in Obernzell.

Museum Village Bavarian Forest (half day tour)

Visit the Bavarian forest museum village, situated in the heart of the "Three Castle Triangle"-region. You will find an original Bavarian farming village and learn to know the tradition and the lifestyle of this region.

Culture and Convention in Lower Bavaria (half dayor all day tour)

In the region "Klosterwinkel" you can feel and notice a harmony between tradition, nature and culture. Enjoy this varied route between the rivers Danube and Inn. Discover Baroque Art of the Asam brothers and works of the Rococo master Johann Baptist Modler. During this tour you will have the opportunity to admire the works of the Asam brothers in the abbey church Osterhofen/Altenmarkt and in the monastery Aldersbach. Enjoy your visits in the monastery brewery and a traditional Bavarian brewery restaurant.

Let us tell you interesting things about regional culture and the spa possibilities in this area. You will learn to know the famous spa and thermal baths Bad Füssing, Bad Birnbach and Bad Griesbach as well as their medicinal possibilities.
 


 
 

The local Austrian Region (half day tour or all day tour)

This tour leads you across the boarder to Upper Austria. Visit the charming town Schärding, known as Austria's most beautiful Baroque town. Experience the attractive town square, named "Silberzeile". Rest and recreation you will find in the Baroque Monastery Church "Reichersberg". In its "Bräustüberl" you will have traditional lunch. 
 


 

Bavarian Forest Tour - The "Crystal road" (all day tour)

Discover the original and almost untouched Bavarian Forest, the largest forest region of middle Europe, by driving along the "Crystal Road". The National Park Bavarian Forest is the beating heart of the Bavarian Woods. During the visit of the glassworks you will get an insight into traditional glass working in the region. You might even have the chance to see men at work. There will be time for shopping as well.
 


 

Danube Valley, Granite hills and the "Mühlviertel" (all day tour)

The "stone world" exhibition in the Granite museum of the Bavarian Woods in Hauzenberg gives an overall insight into the history of granite stone mining.  You will visit a traditional hand weaving mill in Wegscheid. The tour continues to the Austrian "Mühlviertel" with a stop at the monastery "Schlägl" with the chance to taste the monastery's wines. On the way back to Passau the Danube is crossed. During the stop in "Stift Engelszell" you can sample or buy the "Engelszeller Liqueur".

Pope Benedikt XVI. - Visit Altötting and Marktl (all day tour)

The tour takes you to Altötting, the famous Bavarian Mother Mary pilgrimage town, known as the "religious heart of Bavaria", and to the "Black Madonna". Before reaching Altötting a visit to Pope Benedikt's birth place in Marktl is part of the program. Pope Bendedikt XVI. visited Altötting and Marktl Sept. 9th 2006.

The tour takes Bohemian Forest Tour to the Cesky Krumlov (CZ) (all day tour)   After the boarder to the Czech Republic this tour leads you first along the reservoir of the river Moldau to the birth place of the bohemian writer Adalbert Stifter, to Horni Plana. Afterwards the town Cesky Krumlov, the heart of Bohemia and since 1992 world's cultural and natural heritage by UNESCO, will fascinate you. Try once the bohemian cooking. If there is time left you will also visit the town Prachatice with its charming sgraffiti houses.
 


 
 

Dukes - Abbots - Popes (all day tour)   Burghausen-Raitenhaslach-Marktl 

Burghausen, a former ducal residence town lies at the banks of the Salzach a few kilometres before the river flows into the Inn. The main sight of Burghausen is the castle that crowns the old town of Burghausen. It is with its 1051 metres the largest fortification of Europe. The tour continues to Raitenhaslach which offers cultural and culinary pleasures with its rococo church and monastery, pope chamber and its tavern. On your way back your are going to see the birth house of Pope Benedict XVI. in Marktl.
 


 

Linz - Culture Capital of Europe 2009

90 km downstream from Passau on the Danube is where Linz, the capital of the Upper Austria is located. This city once belonged to the bishopric of Passau and today has its own diocese. It is also an industrial, cultural and tourist city. This tour takes you to the romantic Danube Valley and to the Schlögener Schlinge.
