A Paradise for Generations
The story of Christine and Herbert Sprödhuber takes place on the outskirts of the city. Where the Ilz river makes two bends. Where horses graze and chickens cluck. Where a steep rock rises, on which the castle ruins are enthroned.
Nestled in the green hills of the river valley, on the peninsula of the Halser Ilzschleife, lies the Hofbauerngut. The Sprödhuber family run a farm and a vacation farm here in the third generation. "My mother had the first guest in the 1970s. A camper. But the weather was bad," says Christine Sprödhuber (55) and laughs. There are now three guest rooms and four holiday apartments.
Together with her husband Herbert (53), she gives tours of the centuries-old farm. You encounter animals at every turn. Four cats, four horses, two rabbits and "about 80 chickens," the two list. Many animal inhabitants - and four generations of Sprödhubers. "My mother, us, our two children and our two grandchildren live here," explains Christine Sprödhuber. Among the vacationers, too, there are families who are already the third generation to visit. "Visiting us is a vacation with a family connection," Christine Sprödhuber says.
