Comfort and companionship á la Bavaria are celebrated by Passau’s citizens at the Maidult (that takes place around the months of April and May) and the Herbstdult (during the autumn season). These are the two big funfairs in the CITY_OF_THREE_RIVERS. Both are part of the finest and biggest funfairs in Eastern Bavaria and attract tens of thousands of visitors with beer tents and delicacies, live music, funfair rides and different funfair booths. Locals, students and out-of-town visitors amble around the fairground, enjoy cheese and Bavarian pretzels, roasted almonds and beer from the local breweries in Passau. Afternoons for the children, evenings for the oldies and a big firework, traditionally on the Dult Wednesday, invite to visit the fair.
Big Costume Parade
Beautifully embroidered traditional costumes, classically decorated headgear, elaborately adorned horses and carriages: An abundance of eye-catchers is waiting in the big costume parade, which is always held on the first Sunday of the Maidult. The route leads through the beautiful and historic Altstadt of the city. With around 100 different groups of marksmen, musicians and traditional costumes and over 3,000 participants, it is the second biggest parade in Bavaria.
