The view from the Innstadt to the old town Altstadt is magical: It is a rare sight to see that many sights and remarkable buildings at once. This is why it is a popular place to take pictures: This perspective is the second most popular #passaufotospot.
The pastel-coloured houses of the Altstadt, the magnificent cathedral, church steeples, the green water of the Inn river and behind all this the castle Veste Oberhaus: Take the picture from Inn’s right riverbank for the best shot. Walk over the Marienbrücke into the Innstadt neighbourhood and follow the signage downstream to the Danube cycle path Donauradweg. Follow the old railway tracks (but be careful: There are trains on trial and supply runs) downstream until you like the view from the left-hand side. Enjoy the view and atmosphere on a bench on the street Innstadtbahnhofweg.
Tips for the perfect photo:
- Light: The Innkai on the other side is illuminated almost all day long. The colours seem especially beautiful during the warm sunset light. (Click here to see the sun’s course during the day)
- Colourful nature: Autumn is the best time of year to take breath-taking pictures. Choose, for example, one of the trees with their colourful leaves alongside the cycle path as the foreground of your picture. The autumn colours can also be found behind the Altstadt’s skyline: The Georgsberg hill is beautifully overgrown in many different colours.
- Reflections: Use the time exposure setting on your camera to take fantastic pictures of the illuminated Altstadt during dusk or at night. The lights are reflected in the Inn’s water.
