Please note: Due to construction works, the Wehrgang is not accessible at the moment.
Trees, water and the Altstadt: These three elements give you a particularly beautiful photo if captured from the Wehrgang. This walk up to the castle Veste Oberhaus was built in 1367 and provides you with some fantastic views. And this means that they are some great photo opportunities. The view of the Altstadt and Danube ranks at number 6 of the #passaufotospots.
To reach this photo spot, you have to cross the suspension bridge. Opposite the pedestrian lights is the entrance to the Ludwigsteig. Keep right while climbing up the stairs to get to the Wehrgang. Lined with walls, this way served as a protected communication path between the Veste Oberhaus and the Niederhaus. Nowadays, it is a popular path up to the Oberhausmuseum. Immerse into the historic atmosphere of the castle hill step by step.
Tips for the perfect photo:
- Light: You can capture the well-lit Altstadt from this place all day long. The sunset allows for particularly beautiful pictures when the colours of the sky are reflected in the Danube’s water. (Click here to see the sun’s course during the day)
- Look through: Find embrasures along the way and look through them to get a unique view of the Altstadt. Use the wall as a frame to make the perfect picture.
- Wafts of mist: Set out for this #passaufotospot when Passau is covered by mist in the early mornings - it is worth it! With a little bit of patience, you might be able to capture the city as it slowly surfaces through the clearing mist.
